Apple: 221, Microsoft: 2

Apple (as of November 28, 2009) has 221 stores in 41 different states nationwide. Microsoft has 2 stores in 2 states. Are you serious Microsoft?

I have a confession, I love going to the Apple Store. There are 4 Apple Stores close to me in New York City, one just opened on 67th and Broadway. I could get to an Apple store in 12 minutes flat if I wanted to buy something nice for myself or even just play around with some cool new gadgets. In fact, the proximity of the Apple Store is a one of the main reasons why my gadget life is run by Apple (I have a Macbook Pro and an iPhone). If I have a problem with my Apple gadgets that I need help with I could visit any one of Apple’s 221 Apple stores in 41 different states. Now that is what I call customer satisfaction.

But Microsoft. Oh Microsoft. Is anything going your way these days in your battle against Apple? Microsoft has two retail stores nationwide, one is California and one in Arizona. Are you kidding me Microsoft? If you want to reach the high school population and have us use your Zunes instead of our iPods and Windows 7 instead of Snow Leopard, YOU NEED MORE RETAIL STORES. Give yourself a chance to show us what you have to offer. I can guaranteeĀ that if a high school student had the opportunity to actually test out one of your products in a store instead of reading about it online you would get many more users. To get to the nearest Microsoft Retail Store I would have to travel over 2000 miles. That’s not so convenient for me.

GADGETGUY ADVICE:

To Apple: Keep up the good work. The stores look great.

To Microsoft: Step up your game. I admit, the two stores you have now look great as well, but your real problem is that you only have 2. Start building.
