WiFi 35,000 Feet High

Thanks to the nice folks at Gogo, I have free WiFi on my flight to Atlanta. Nothing like a nice holiday gift. Continue reading to find out my impressions on the inflight WiFi…..

Hey GadgetHigh Students,

I know I have not written anything recently, and you will have to forgive me for that. School has been crazy, but winter break is finally here. Our newest writer Ross has been a great contributor and everyone should read his app reviews. In other news, I am currently on a flight to Atlanta where I will (hopefully) get on my connecting flight to South Africa. As I boarded the plane, after a few delays and gate changes, I have given a card that read “A holiday gift for first timers Free WI-FI courtesy of Delta and gogo inflight internet.” So I decided, why not give this inflight internet a try? It’s free…..

As excited as I was to try the inflight WiFi, my excitement was quickly diminished not only by the hour and a half runway delay but also because I received an error message every time I tried to use the WiFi.That being said, I did not give up hope. Eventually my inflight WiFi was running smoothly, giving me the opportunity to sing onto iChat, open Hulu Desktop to watch some Family Guy, and, of course, post on my favorite website- GadgetHigh. So far, the internet is running pretty smoothly, with the exception of the few times the internet has stopped working all together. I have been surfing the internet with ease for almost an our now. I even video chatted for a while. What else could I want? I have my chips, my orange juice and my free WiFi. This is going to be a great plane ride.

Inflight WiFi is a superb idea and kudos to gogo for making the WiFi work so well. That being said, the main reason why I am using this is because it was free.  Gogo currently charges $9.95 for WiFi on flights shorter than 3 hours and $12.95 for flights longer than 3 hours. This is a price I would be willing to pay, considering the fun I am having, but I am unsure everyone would be willing to pay the same price. Another option is the $49.45 monthly charge. I do not fly enough for this to be a good option for me, and I believe that $49.95 a month, even for frequent flyers, is a little bit overpriced.

Overall, inflight internet is a fantastic idea and I loved my free WiFi. Thanks Delta and gogo!

Now it is time to prepare for landing. Have a great break! Happy Holidays!  Leave all your comments below!
